Gemini

Project Gemini’s objective was the development of space travel techniques in support the Apollo mission, it began in 1961 and concluded in 1966.

Big Gemini or “Big G” was proposed by McDonnell Douglas in August 1969 as an advanced version of the Gemini spacecraft system.

Throughout development, McDonnell proposed Gemini separately as a cheaper, and developmentally faster alternative to Apollo, as a lunar logistics vehicle, and as part of a rescue package. A 1963 Mars mission study prepared by GM proposed used a Gemini capsule as the return stage of its excursion module.
