I’ve been moving some things around to simplify the index, which made much more sense when I started putting pages together in the Categories area. I’ve combined the Space Station 1970 and Space Station 1980 tags as NASA Phase B Station. It felt confusing.

If you didn’t know, the Phase B Station studies began in 1969 with Grumman, North American Rockwell, and McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Company submitting proposals in response to NASA’s April 1969 RFP. In July of that year, NASA awarded study contracts to North American Rockwell and McDonnell Douglas.

The scope of the study was to design a 12-man Space Station – Space Station 1970 – which could be expanded over time to a 50-man Space Base – Space Station 1980 – with vastly improved capabilities.

There are no NASA Phase A Space Station studies, but NASA has been studying space stations for as long as it has existed.

For the same reason – when I put the Space Station page together as a visual category – I’ve combined NASA studies from 1984 forward under the International Space Station category because they are all legitimate ancestors of the ISS.

Make sense? It’s not rocket science.
